I shoplifted for years and years before some bad luck resulted in several convictions for theft. By the time I appeared in front of the same judge for the fourth time, he was not happy with me. He threatened to toss me in the stir for a year if I didn't attend court ordered Anti-Theft Classes and stay out of trouble afterwards. If he saw me again, he said, I was finished. I took the threat seriously and attended the class online. I thought that was sort of funny but as the program progressed the instructor really started to get through to me. He pointed out how stealing is usually a result of a person's inability to control their impulses. The class went on to offer helpful tips in overcoming this condition and getting your life back on track. When the class was over I was astonished to realize I didn't feel like stealing anything. I even went to a store and walked around for ten minutes and didn't have an urge to take a single item. I hope this stuff sticks!
